Position Summary:
Plans and performs non-routine assignment of substantial variety and complexity, using precedence that is not fully applicable. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Trains and develops other engineers and technicians to use good engineering practices. Will utilize project management methods to complete assignments, or to plan, direct, and coordinate activities of functional area as part of a corporate cross-functional project. Develops thoughts and ideas into applicable designs. Requires fluid product knowledge and the ability to understand end customer system function through extensive communication with distributors and end customers. Coordinate with service group, sourcing, marketing, and operations to issue quotations and process orders.
Key Responsibilities: (These responsibilities are in addition to the responsibilities of an Applications Engineer)
§ Manage advanced quotations/orders to keep them on-time and to meet or exceed customer expectations
§ Design for manufacturability and assembly based on a good understanding of manufacturing and assembly capabilities / processes
§ Is a vital resource for technical questions related to fluid system function and system design
§ Technically develop others including application engineers and technicians
§ Drive changes within and outside of the department to improve processes
§ Manage key departmental projects directing the work of departmental resources and through service requests from external departments
§ Manage departmental responsibilities of large cross-functional project as core team member
§ Proficient in the area of project management
§ Develops complex customer solutions through engineered changes to existing products and/or combinations of products through an understanding of the customer system
§ Evaluate request using established business filters, operating guidelines, and an awareness of business risk and reward
§ Establish test requirements to validate proper product or assembly function and to validate workmanship
§ Investigates and determines feasibility of customer special products
§ Aides in the development of outside suppliers for product manufacture
Position Requirements:
Education:BS degree in engineering plus appropriate continuous training. Master’s degree or equivalent skills and experience is preferred.
Experience:7+ years of experience. Understands and applies knowledge of organization strategy. 3+ years of product or systems design. Prefer at least one year in a manufacturing or assembly support role and one year in a distributor support capacity. Is the technical expert in chosen field(s). Hands-on experience with a variety of fluid system components is preferred. Recognized as a resource to the organization.
